Meg would love to visit your classroom, preschool, library, writing group, or conference in-person or virtually!

Time frames and grade groupings are suggestions, and I’m very willing to work with your specific schedule.

Alternatively, I am also happy to work with small groups over the course of several days, in a workshop setting.

PRE-K & LIBRARY VISITS

30 Minutes (Suggested)

Includes an interactive story-time and easy to make craft.


K - 1st Grade

25-35 Minutes (Suggested)

AUTHOR INTRODUCTION & INSPIRATION

I will share what inspires me to write stories, where I work, and how to find inspiration and ideas.

HOW A BOOK IS MADE

I will talk about what an author and illustrator does, and explain how a book is made, with an emphasis on working collaboratively.

STORY TIME

Meg will read IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST, and ask questions about the book’s theme. We will discuss all the ways that children can be creative and think like an artist, highlighting the creative potential in everyone. May include song and movement.

*DRAW WITH ME

If time permits, I will demonstrate how to draw a character from simple shapes, based on characteristics that students provide.

*Depends on the amount of time allotted


Presentation includes Book Signing and leave behind worksheets/activities surrounding IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST.


3rd - 5th Grade

45-60 minutes (Suggested)

EARLY ARTWORK

I will share some early artwork and discuss how skills develop over time with practice.

HOW A BOOK IS MADE

I will explain what an author and illustrator does, and explain how a book is made, with an emphasis on working collaboratively. This presentation will go into a bit more detail about the writing/publication process, and will include idea generation, brainstorming, drafting, revising, critiquing and publishing. I will also describe the process of creating a book dummy. (A mock-up book.)

Meg will read IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST, and ask questions about the book’s theme. We will discuss all the ways that children can be creative and think like an artist, highlighting the creative potential in everyone. 

DRAW WITH ME

If time permits, I will demonstrate how to draw a character from simple shapes, based on characteristics that students provide. If this is a small group setting, the children can draw along with me. A simple back story can be created for the character.

Q&A SESSION
